Deep inside the forests of Jharkhand, 180 kilometres from the state capital Ranchi, an AI Lab has quietly come up - not in a tech park or a university campus, but at Betla National Park, within the core areas of Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR).
The lab is the centrepiece of a new initiative, the AI Builder Bootcamp, launched jointly by Startup Jharkhand and Palamu Tiger Reserve to bring hands-on exposure to emerging technologies to rural and tribal youth. The programme begins with communities living around Budha Pahad and the core forest areas of PTR - regions long defined by their remoteness rather than their access to opportunity.
The AI Lab, established at Betla National Park by the Palamu Tiger Reserve authorities, gives local youth a rare, direct entry point into artificial intelligence - a space where forest-dwelling communities can learn, experiment, and build using the same tools shaping economies elsewhere in the world.
The bootcamp curriculum is designed around practical, local relevance rather than abstract theory. Participants will explore how AI can be applied across agriculture, education, small businesses, forestry, and livelihoods - helping communities use technology to address everyday challenges and uncover new economic opportunities.
More Than a Bootcamp: A Mindset Shift
